Every year, Alfred picks a charitable cause to carry along with him on the long Comrades road. The chance to support a charity is one of the parts of Comrades that he enjoys the most, and one of the reasons that keeps him going to the finish line.
So this year, we are happy to introduce Alfred’s charity of choice, Meals on Wheels Community Services South Africa! This 51-year-old non-profit organisation has its headquarters in Bloemfontein, but works all over the country to provide cooked meals and assistance to South Africa’s poorest and most vulnerable communities.
Here are some ways you can extend a helping hand…
- Monetary donations: simply SMS the word ‘MEAL’ to 39055 to make donation of R15.
- Food donations: get in touch with alfredsbantingcomrades@gmail.com to find out how you can get tins or non-perishables to the depot, which will go to use in cooking the meals.
- All excess money left over from donations for the bare necessities of Alfred’s run will be passed on to the MOW team.
